The Everybody Rejoice Gown draws from a combination of many of Larry Krone’s enduring inspirations for design and art: country music, traditional American home crafts, love as expressed through obsessive hand-workmanship, and Tony Walton’s astounding, uber-embellished dress for Evillene, the wicked witch in 1978’s film “The Wiz”. “Everybody Rejoice” is the song the denizens of Oz sing after Evillene has been melted by Dorothy and is flushed down her enormous toilet/throne, but the Everybody Rejoice Gown celebrates her flamboyant personal style while evoking the joy that she brings to those around her (if only in death)!

This gown is made almost entirely from fabrics and beaded/sequined samples from Todd Oldham’s 1990’s fashion archives. The yellow floral print and collaged vase print were both experimental sublimation print/fabric combos that were never used in production. This gown incorporates many beaded pieces created in India by Todd Oldham’s longtime collaborators, Lalit Ghera’s Mystic Beading including panels of gold bugle beads and iridescent peacock blue seed beads, as well as the horizontal silk taffeta yoke. All elements were applied and decoratively top-stitched by hand, as was the gathering on the gown’s sides which serve to show a little extra leg while creating a drape and sway, enhanced by the luxurious weight of all those glass beads!

Detail note: the top of this gown is enhanced with strong elastic, so it can be worn strapless. Most may prefer to use the invisible bra straps (included) that hook easily into reinforced loops sewn inside.
