The Strawberry Shortcake Skirt draws from a combination of many of Larry Krone’s enduring inspirations for design and art: country music, traditional American home crafts, love as expressed through obsessive hand-workmanship, and Tony Walton’s astounding, uber-embellished dress for Evillene, the wicked witch in 1978’s film “The Wiz”. This skirt is an imagined look for the Winkies — native Oz residents forced to work for Evillene— to wear once they are freed from her wicked spell. The skirt is perfect for an Ozian day-to-evening look and is great for those looking to have some fashionable fun!

The Strawberry Shortcake Skirt incorporates a strawberry sublimation print from Todd Oldham’s 1990’s collection archives. Interspersed with the sweet strawberries in the skirt’s three ruffled tiers are panels made from sassy repurposed cotton t-shirts. All of the seams were feather stitched by hand, and then everything got embellished with heaps of various vintage trims from Larry Krone’s personal collection. Look closely to find each strip of lace, fringe, pom-poms, and bits and bobs hand-gathered and applied with Larry’s signature embroidery stitches, featuring a comfy waistband added for your pleasure. And here’s a fun game: find the Larréon label—it’s hidden somewhere on the third tier!

This skirt is one-of-a-kind and took over 30 hours to complete; hand-embroidering over all seams, and hand gathering/applying trims using decorative embroidery stitches.
